Brief Project Description:
Sharek.org is a website which matches the volunteering needs of various civil society institutions with volunteers from the corporate world. Accordingly, civil society institutions will be able to post their available volunteering opportunities, provide a brief about them, specify the number of volunteers needed, specify skills required (if any), and the time frame of the needed engagement. On the other hand, corporate volunteers will be able to browse the offerings and choose the ones that best fit their skills, interests, geographical area, and schedule.
Sharek.org aims at:
• Spreading the culture of volunteerism among the Egyptian corporate sector
• Providing an arena for the Egyptian corporate sector to maximize its societal impact via volunteering for development;
• Matching the know-how of the corporate sector with the capability building needs of civil sector, thus capitalizing on the real assets of the corporate sector;
• Increasing the capacity and professionalism of civil society and the organic link between corporate and civil society;
Description of tasks:
Under the direct supervision of Social Fruits1 the intern will undertake the following tasks:
Translate project’s objectives into highly engaging and compelling design concepts;
Conceptualize, design, and develop the web pages to match a visual cooperate appeal;
Create designs including sketches, visual design mockups, visual assets and documentation required for proper implementation;
Communicate design strategy and rationale to the team; and
Ability to work with constructive criticism as well as adhere to deadlines
Furthermore, the intern is encouraged to:
Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; and
Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
1 Social Fruits was created to build social platforms that aim to enable, integrate, and stimulate tribes with different interests leveraging technology as a mere tool.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Excellent knowledge with graphics software, like Photoshop, Javascript, etc.;
Experience/Understanding of HTML, CSS, ActionScript, and jQuery;
Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality;
Have experience working with a variety of media programs to add sound or film clips to web pages;
Strong grasp of web design principles, information design, typography, color, iconography and layout;
A complete profile with positive reviews and A work style that is extremely detail oriented; and
Ability to work effectively in Arabic and English.
General Terms and Conditions
The Internship operates on a non-remunerative basis. Costs and arrangements for transportation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern.
UNV accepts no responsibility for the intern’s medical insurance or for costs arising from illness during the internship.
Intern will perform his/her duties online and when needed, will be asked to work from office.
